Avandia News: An Avandia Recall may be coming; Avandia Settletment announced.
There is big Avandia News. An Avandia Recall may be issued following a recent FDA hearing; and the drug's maker isn't waiting for an Avandia Recall order. It has announced a settlement of many claims alleging Avandia heart attack and other cardiovascular events related to Avandia.
For the past 11 years, millions of Americans suffering from Type II diabetes, have been taking the popular prescription drug Avandia, made by GlaxoSmithKline. Since 2007 there have been thousands of suits filed in US courts claiming that Avandia increases the risk for serious heart-related illness. Now, just before an historic FDA hearing that could result in the drug’s withdrawal from US markets, Glaxo has announced that it has settled a large percentage of the cases currently pending.
Right after the hearing, the company said in a press release that in addition to 460 million that it will pay to the plaintiffs who just settled, it has set aside more money to eventually deal with cases that were not part of the deal.
