Question:  If zinc is so dangerous, why is it in my denture cream?

Answer:  Apparently zinc is used to help the cream form a lasting bond between the dentures and the gums.  However, it's obvious that there are safer alternatives that could have been used instead of zinc; and the maker of the Super Poligrip line of denture creams has stopped putting zinc in its products. According to their website, their new zinc-free formulation, in their words, provides an effective all-day hold for well-fitted dentures.  We believe that safer alternatives to zinc should have been used long ago; and that if zinc was ever a necessary ingredient, the public should have been warned about the possibility of injuries caused by the ingestion and absorption of too much zinc.
