Denture Cream Adhesive Lawsuit, Fixodent Poisoning, Zinc Poisoning, Zinc Toxicity, Zinc Overdose:  These are all major concerns for denture wearers today.  According to reports, an estimated 35 million people in the United States wear dentures. Most use a denture cream adhesive to hold their dentures in place, and most do so with no knowledge of the risks involved.

Here's the problem.  Many popular denture cream adhesives contain zinc--a mineral that the body needs in small amounts.  But denture creams tend to ooze, especially if the dentures are not a tight fit, and in those cases substantial amounts of the cream can be swallowed or absorbed through the gums.  When the cream is swallowed or absorbed, so is the zinc, and eventually the zinc in the body can reach toxic levels.

Zinc toxicity can lead to a depletion of copper in the body, which in turn leads to degeneration of the myelin sheath around peripheral nerve cells.  The symptoms of this condition, generally known as neuorpathy, can progress from mild tingling in the hands and feet to chronic pain, paralysis and loss of use of the arms, legs, feet and hands.  Other symptoms can include muscle weakness, sharp pains, loss of balance and permanent disability.

If you have any of these symptoms, and if you've used a denture cream adhesive for any period of time, please contact us today to speak with an experienced attorney about the options available to you.
