Question:  Is Denture Cream Really Dangerous?

Answer:  It can be very dangerous if it has zinc in it.  Many of the most popular denture creams or adhesives contain zinc, which is a mineral that our bodies need in small amounts.  But if the level of zinc in the blood stream is allowed to get too high, if it reaches a toxic level, then it can cause a painful nerve condition called neuropathy.  Neuropathy can start as tingling or numbness in the hands or feet, and progress to loss of limb control, severe pain, paralysis, and permanent disability.  There may be other symptoms, including muscle pain or weakness, and loss of balance.  If you've been using a denture cream or adhesive, and you've noticed any of these symptoms, you should see a doctor to find out whether the product you've been using is the cause.
